In "Death in Venice," typical motifs of decadence include the obsession with beauty and youth, the decay of the body and mind, and the pursuit of pleasure at the expense of morality. Aschenbach's internal struggle with his desires and his eventual downfall exemplify the themes of decadence present in the novella. **
