The scorpion wasp, also known as the tarantula hawk, is a large, solitary wasp known for its painful sting. It is named for its habit of hunting and paralyzing tarantulas to serve as food for its larvae. The scorpion wasp is known for its distinctive metallic blue-black body and bright orange wings. It is found in arid regions of the Americas and is known for its potent venom and impressive hunting abilities. **

The wood wasp, also known as the horntail, is a type of large, solitary wasp that is known for its long, narrow body and distinctive horn-like projection on its abdomen. Despite its name, the wood wasp does not actually sting and is not aggressive towards humans. It is known for its ability to bore into and lay its eggs in dead or dying wood, making it a common pest of timber and lumber. **

The insect in the image appears to be a type of solitary wasp known as a mud dauber. Mud daubers are known for building their nests out of mud, which gives them their name. They are typically black or metallic blue in color and have a slender body with a narrow waist. Mud daubers are not aggressive towards humans and are beneficial as they help control pest insect populations. **

This is a type of insect known as a paper wasp. Paper wasps are slender, long-legged insects with a narrow waist and a distinctive, slender body shape. They are often black or brown with yellow or red markings. Paper wasps are known for building their distinctive paper-like nests, which are often found hanging from eaves, branches, or other structures. These insects are known for their aggressive behavior when defending their nests, so it's important to exercise caution around them. **

This insect is related to a wasp. It belongs to the family Vespidae, which includes various species of wasps. While hornets also belong to the Vespidae family, they are a specific type of large wasp. Therefore, this insect is more closely related to the general category of wasps rather than specifically to hornets. **

Without more information or a description of the insect, it is difficult to determine whether it was a strange fly or a wasp that stung you. However, wasps are known for their painful stings and distinctive black and yellow coloring, while flies typically do not sting and are often smaller and more inconspicuous. If the insect had a narrow waist and a smooth stinger, it was likely a wasp. If it had large eyes and a bristly body, it may have been a fly. If you are experiencing severe symptoms or an allergic reaction, it is important to seek medical attention. **

A parasitic wasp is called a parasitic wasp because it lays its eggs inside or on the body of another insect, which serves as the host for the developing wasp larvae. The larvae then feed on the host insect, eventually killing it. This behavior is considered parasitic because the wasp benefits at the expense of the host, using it as a source of food and shelter for its offspring. This strategy is a common reproductive strategy among certain species of wasps. **

A wasp larva is the immature stage of a wasp, which hatches from an egg laid by the queen. The larva is usually white and grub-like in appearance, and it feeds on other insects or nectar brought to it by worker wasps. A wasp queen is the reproductive female in a wasp colony. She is responsible for laying eggs, which will develop into more workers, drones, or future queens. The queen is typically larger than the other wasps in the colony and has a distinct role in maintaining the social structure and reproductive success of the colony. **
